This blog has turned out to be surprisingly fun in spite of the fact that it is for my Senior Project and I HAVE to do it in order to graduate. Part of the requirement that needs to be filled is to collect evidence. This is why I would like to hear from you about what you think about my blog. Do you think it was a good representation of the concerns of the Asian American population? Did you feel as though you’ve learned something? Have any of your opinions or beliefs been changed by this blog? If so, how and why?
These are just some questions I’m tossing out there to get feedback from you guys. Please comment with your opinions. You can either comment directly on this post or on the separate tab that I’m also posting this on. *Also, vote in the poll.

I did learn about how the media manipulates aspects of Asian culture to make it more popular to the public. The stereotypes that have emerged are surprisingly inaccurate and have been proven false yet they still persist to this day. Although some of the media has not been intentionally harmful, it passively creates stereotypes and does harm to the millions of Asian Americans who have to face ignorance. Overall, this blog was very enlightening due to the perspective it is written in and I enjoyed learning about these things.
ReplyDeleteI feel that I have learned a great deal of Asian American stereotypes and concerns. What most shocked me was the idea that Asians are expected to follow religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism and that many people believe them to not only follow the religion from what they believe to be the only in the countries in Asia but also for the Asian to be extremely knowledgable of that religion.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting aspect that I learned from this blog was the idea that scholarships aren't provided to Asian Americans even though they are a great minority in the United States. Such issues as those have made me think greatly about the American system and ideas such as equal opportunities for all minorities. I think that this blog has challenged the way I view Asian Americans especially in stereotypes such as all Indians become doctors and all Asians can do everything to play sports, instruments and get perfect GPAs.
I feel now that people talk greatly about the injustices of African or Hispanic Americans but don't focus on the problems and injustices that go on in Asia or even the problems faced by Asians here in America. Because this blog was written by an Asian American I was not only able to learn more about different struggles that I had been ignorant about before but I was also able to become knowledgeable about issues faced by another minority that is played down even more than what African or Hispanic American minorities were before.
Great Senior Project!
What I liked most about this blog was the different segments that you created for it, rather than just writing/ rambling about anything and everything. It made the blog have a clear focus.
ReplyDeleteThe "Changing Asian" segment was probably not the most informative segment, but I found it interesting to actually have it be put into perspective the fact that Asians are really sort of taking over and allowing for themselves to be recognized in new lights. Your "Are You Serious" segment was the most humerus, and the most true in terms of social circumstances. Although, "Are You Serious #5" was a bit over the top. I feel as though that teacher was a bit too presumptuous. I'm also attempting to figure out who the sub could have been. :P I also love how you incorporated the Japan section, mainly because it is such a big thing that's going on at the moment and I could only begin to wonder what would have gone in its place had those series of natural disasters not occurred.
Overall, I was very entertained by this blog, and even though it was only a senior project, I think you should continue on with it. (:
I have always known plenty about South Asian cultures, but I learned more about the East Asian cultures through this blog. I am impressed that you branched out to different sectors of Asia that did not necessarily apply to your life.
ReplyDeleteThe segment I enjoyed the most was, of course, "Are you serious?" That decision has absolutely nothing to do with me being featured in it by the way. Absolutely nothing. I also enjoyed the "Changing Asian" portion of the blog. The smashing of stereotypes is always enjoyable and eye opening. Nice effort. There should have been more me though, just saying.
